Enghien-les-Bains is a commune in the northern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 13.5 kilometres (8.4 miles) from the center of Paris, in the département of Val-d'Oise.  The town has many assets, which are rare this close to Paris, including its spa waters.

Enghien-les-Bains is famous as a spa resort. Enghien-les-Bains the only city in Ile-de-France with geothermal hot springs. The remarkable quality of the calcic sulphurous waters of Enghien-les-Bains provides it with decongestion, anti-allergenic and bacteriostatic qualities.

The first spa centre was probably built during the 1st Empire, but it was not until the arrival of Péligot, the former administrator of Saint-Louis Hospital in Paris, that Enghien spa really developed. Péligot delimited the pond, which was still very marshy, and sank ten artesian wells to provide the town with a better supply of running water. He then discovered a second spring which was named after him, the Cotte spring, before later being renamed the King’s spring (Source du Roi).
