Smarjeske Toplice is said to be the most modern of the Slovenian thermal spas. The wooden pool in the park of the Smarjeske Toplice Thermal Spa is built above a spring of thermal water with a temperature of 32° C and is the oldest of the outdoor pools. The sides of the wooden pool are made from oak planks and the bottom from pine boards. Behind the wood, which is without chemical coatings, is neither cement nor ceramic tiling but rather packed clay that retains the water. The pool has a constant flow of fresh thermal water that completely replenishes the pool every few hours, maintaining to the greatest possible degree both the temperature of the water and its healing mineral composition. Every evening the pool is drained and cleaned and by morning it is again filled with pure thermal water with all its healing properties.
